The Witcher Books in order of story chronology The reason for this order is that in the initial short stories time does jump around a lot. In the Netflix series, this causes some confusion with a lot of viewers, which is understandable. While it's not perfect, the better order is probably The Last Wish first. The show is based on the first 2 books which are a collection of short stories involving Geralt. 1: The Last Wish and 2: Sword of Destiny. The first two books are actually a series of short stories but many are essential to the overall thing as they are where you meet all the main characters. Last Wish was actually published after Sword of Destiny but the stories come before. You are also missing a book, Season of Storms which is more short stories that occur before the main books.
